In Chris's words
Situations Chris handles every week
A parent worried about a teen and unsure where to turn
Finding the right counselor, psychiatrist or program is confusing at the worst possible moment. Here For Texas and the free Mental Health Navigation Line at 972-525-8181 connect callers with a trained navigator who helps them find mental health and substance use resources in their area, in English or Spanish.
A school that needs mental health programming for students
The Foundation's youth education presentations for third through 12th grade cover stress management, thinking traps, healthy boundaries, resilience, coping skills and suicide prevention. Peer Helpers PLUS adds a peer-to-peer suicide prevention and support program, and Thrive builds mental, social and emotional health into a school's academic culture.
Educators and parents who do not know the warning signs
Adult education programs teach educators, parents and professionals how to promote mental wellness, understand the teenage brain and recognize signs of depression and suicidal crisis in young people. The annual When Life Hands You Teenagers conference each September brings in speakers on adolescent mental health.
A mother carrying a child's mental health challenge alone
Coffee Days is a free monthly peer support group for moms and female caregivers of children and teens with mental health challenges, meeting in University Park, Highland Park and Richardson. A Spanish-language group, Charlas con un Cafecito, meets as well.
A company looking for a cause its people can get behind
Chris works with businesses and donors who want to sponsor the Beacon of Hope Luncheon, The Hope Party or the Eric Nadel Birthday Benefit, host a fundraiser, volunteer as a mental health navigator or bring a mental health program to their employees.
